Position Summary:
The Accountant I will aid in accounting and be responsible for assisting with the financial obligations of the institution and assisting in maintaining the fiscal responsibility of the organization. The Accountant I works closely with the accounting manager and chief operating officer to accomplish the mission and service goals of Aletheia House. Area serviced is Jefferson County, Birmingham, Alabama.

Primary Responsibilities:
-Prepare, document, enter and post deposits, journal entries, reversing journal entries and auditor adjustments as directed by the accounting manager, chief operating officer and/or executive director
-Prepare accurate and timely requests for payment to various federal, state, and local funding entities
-Maintain accurate records of supporting documentation for all payment requests
-Compile and analyze financial information as directed by the chief operating officer
-Reconcile balance sheet accounts, subsidiary ledgers and maintain proper documentation; reconcile report discrepancies and problems as required by agency policy
-Attend staff meetings and in-service trainings as required
-Perform other related duties as assigned by the accounting manager, chief operating officer and/or executive director
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
-Excellent writing, communication, organizational and time management skills with knowledge of English grammar, spelling, punctuation, and arithmetic
-Experience with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, etc.)
-Exceptional interpersonal skills to relate with participants and resource providers
-Ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities
-Ability to maintain harmonious effective working relationships with other employees
Qualifications:
-Bachelor’s degree in accounting
-4+ years experience in accounting required
-Experience in non-profit accounting preferred
Job Salary:
$38,000 annual salary
Hours:
F/T, Exempt–Monday – Friday, 8:30 am – 4:30 pm
40 Hours
