Location of Position: Bessemer, AL
Position Summary:
The medical assistant is responsible for providing medical assistance and coordinates support services for health practitioners at the Bessemer Neighborhood Health Center. The medical assistant will prepare patients for treatment and coordinates and assists with completion of treatment/protocol. The medical assistant will maintain exam rooms, performs non-invasive patient procedures, medical charting, recordkeeping, and inventories. The medical assistant schedules diagnostic test appointments, generates detailed reports and interfaces professionally with outside resources including patients, students, and other professionals. The medical assistant works closely with the director of health services to accomplish the mission and service goals of Aletheia House.
Primary Responsibilities:
-To provide administrative and clinical support for the Aletheia House Bessemer Neighborhood Health Center and its health practitioners including taking medical histories, vital signs, prepares patients for exams, and assisting physician/nurse practitioner during exam
-To collect and prepare lab specimens, perform clia waived laboratory tests and dispose of contaminated supplies
-To provide referrals to address identified needs related factors affecting health (medical, social, housing, or educational)
-To provide patients with health education materials approved by the Aletheia House
-To arrange and prepare examining rooms’ equipment and instruments
-To stock exam rooms with medical supplies and stock laboratory with lab supplies
-Updates medical records and medical charting, recordkeeping, typing, insurance filing and other clerical needs
-To complete insurance forms, answer phones and schedule appointments
-Patient interaction
-To answer telephones and schedule appointments
-To perform other duties as directed to support the missions of the Aletheia House Bessemer Neighborhood Health Center and as assigned by the director of health services or chief operating officer
Qualifications:
-High School Diploma or equivalent required
-Certification as a certified medical assistant (CMA) or nursing assistant required
-Current basic life support certifications required
-Knowledge of Electronic Medical Records, pc applications, and software required
-Knowledge of obtaining medical and social history, chart, take blood pressures, general medical and office skills required
-Must adhere to HIPAA and OSHA regulations and guidelines
-Two years of outpatient experience preferred
-Must have a valid Driver’s License and good driving record
-Motor Vehicle Report required
Travel Requirements:
-Travel occasionally
-Must be willing to use and have your own personal transportation
-Mileage reimbursement for personal use of vehicle is included
Job Salary:
$15.00 – $20.00 per hour – F/T non-exempt

Hours:
Monday – Thursday, 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m., Friday, 8:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. occasional evenings or weekends -Total 40 Hours per week – (schedule may vary according to clients’ needs)
